Shared ownership - buy a new home

Affordable home ownership and leasehold

Shared ownership

Are you looking to get onto the housing ladder? Have you thought about shared ownership and staircasing to owning your own property?

Eastlight is committed to helping people buy their own homes and offers a range of houses and apartments available for shared ownership. They are available for part-buy part-rent.

Eastlight homes available can be found here and hereHere we list details about the properties we have available.

A share of the property is sold to you and then you may pay a rent on the remaining share. Often a mortgage is used to help buy your share.

We aim to build more of these homes each year so please keep a look out for available properties.

We also have low cost home ownership properties for re-sale.

Leasehold retirement housing

Colne manages four leasehold retirement schemes, these contain a mixture of apartments and bungalows for people aged 55 and over. The schemes are in Colchester, Manningtree and Clacton on Sea.

Some have a residential scheme officer, and all benefit from a 24 hour emergency alarm system so if you need to summon help you can do so easily.

Residents have use of the communal facilities such as a lounge, laundry room and gardens.

With leasehold properties you are responsible for the maintenance and decoration inside your home., Colne is responsible for maintaining the communal areas and services.

You will pay a monthly service charge towards the cost of this maintenance.

Right to Buy or Acquire schemes

If you currently rent your home from Colne you may be able to buy it under the Right to Buy or the Right to Acquire schemes. Whether you are eligible will depend on your tenancy, your property and the time that you have held a tenancy. Please click here for more information on Right to Buy from the Right to Buy website
